Karsten Krauskopf

Karsten Krauskopf is a German visual artist based in Berlin. It is vital to his drawings, paintings, collages and assemblages that they are expressions of holistic experiences that are overdetermined and cannot fully be captured by words - at least not by the artist himself. Working in a range of media and formats, from small works on paper to large-scale paintings on canvas, Karsten Krauskopf is particularly concerned with how to grasp the intricacies of the human condition. Amidst the backdrop of our digitally-driven era, where individualism coexists with uncontrollable interconnectedness, Krauskopf navigates the complex terrain of human communication. He shines a light on the delicate balance between personal solitude and the vast web of possibilities that contemporary society offers.

Born 1979 in the south of Germany Karsten Krauskopf has always explored figurative expression since he was a child. Drawing superheroines and mermaids in his childhood lead him to intense studies in drawing and painting under the tutelage of Brigitte Jerosch-Dürfeldt and Hellwig Pütter. His intellectual curiosity drove him to explore the nuances of Japanese and Chinese culture, alongside a deep dive into psychology and psychoanalytic theory, at universities in Berlin, Tübingen and Japan. These multidisciplinary explorations nurture his unique perspective, enriching his artistic vision with a profound understanding of the human psyche.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Krauskopf's influence extends to the realm of academia, where he is a psychology professor in the realm of social work. This dual identity as an artist and educator allows him to delve deeper into the enigmatic layers of human nature. Central to his creative process are spontaneous drawings from life, serving as windows into the raw authenticity of human experiences. In a world awash with words, Karsten Krauskopf's art whispers a narrative that surpasses language.
