Deep is a painting about rediscovering my masculinity. Growing up, my parents often told me that I was too feminine and that I should have been born a girl. I internalized these messages and, for many years, believed that my masculinity did not exist. After coming out, I began to realize that masculinity had always been a part of me—it had simply been buried deep beneath childhood trauma.
This work reflects that process of uncovering and reclaiming a hidden part of myself. The intense colors and expressive forms represent emotions that had been suppressed for a long time and finally found a way to emerge.
I painted Deep in a single day, using leftover acrylic paints and oil pastels. The entire process happened in one breath, as an instinctive and deeply emotional release.
